Southwater Village Hall Pre-School
Curriculum
We believe that children will learn through play, so activities and equipment are chosen to encourage this learning process. Careful records are kept on each child’s progress and the curriculum is planned so that all individual needs are met.
-
A Unique Child – We provide resources to enable each child to learn at their own pace, with support to encourage resilience and confidence. All activities are planned around development, inclusion, safety, health and wellbeing.
-
Positive Relationships – We recognise that children learn best from a base of secure relationships with parents/carers as well as their Key Person. As a pre-school we work in partnership with parents to support this learning.
-
Enabling Environments – The environment plays a key role in supporting and extending children’s development and learning. We aim to use observation and planning to help every child move forward.
-
Learning and Development – We recognise that children learn and develop in different ways and at different rates, and that all areas of learning are equally important and inter-connected.
These are the six areas of Learning and Development, with some of the activities we offer within them:
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development – Home corner, book corner, story time, music and movement, theme table, role play, snack time, mirrors, dressing up, and group games.
-
Communication, Language and Literacy – Stories, songs, nursery rhymes, poems, clipboards, jigsaws, mark-making and role-play.
-
Knowledge and understanding of the world – Construction toys, woodwork, magnets, maps, globes, magnifying glasses, nature study, train tracks, airports, cars, cookery, plants, clockwork, electronic toys and the computer.
-
Mathematical Development – Weighing, volume, puzzles, counting rhymes and songs, shapes, and sorting and sequencing.
